(NYC) New York City Elopements

Kimberly Coccagnia | NYC elopement photographer, specializing in New York elopements, weddings and City Hall ceremonies.

We’ve been capturing New York City elopements since 2008, and it’s been an incredible journey of love, & connection, Our first elopement took place under the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, a moment that forever solidified our passion for intimate, one-of-a-kind weddings. Over the years, we’ve had the honor of photographing countless couples, getting to know them on a personal level, and documenting their unique love stories in the city that never sleeps. We truly believe that the magic of elopements lies in the quiet, meaningful moments, and we’re dedicated to creating timeless photographs that reflect the authenticity of your special day.

  • Planning an intimate wedding or elopement in New York can be a deeply personal, yet incredibly exciting experience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started, focusing on simplicity, intimacy, and making the experience uniquely yours.

    1. Set a Date

Choosing a Date: This is the first step and the most important! Consider the time of year, weather, and the overall vibe you're going for. New York has four distinct seasons, and the season you choose will drastically impact the feel of your wedding. For instance, if you're planning something cozy and romantic, winter might be perfect. For those who love natural beauty, spring or fall with the changing leaves or blossoms could set the scene beautifully.

    2. The Legal Paperwork

Make sure to get your marriage license! For NYC weddings you’ll need to apply at Project Cupid:

    3. Decide on the Location

New York City Elopement: If you're eloping in NYC, there are countless romantic and scenic spots to choose from. You could tie the knot in Central Park, with the skyline as your backdrop, or in the quieter, cobblestone streets of the West Village. Some couples opt for a rooftop ceremony overlooking the iconic skyline, or even something adventurous like eloping by the Brooklyn Bridge or in a charming garden.

Permits: Make sure to check for permits if you're getting married at public places like Central Park or the Brooklyn Bridge. Many venues will handle this for you, but it's something to keep in mind if you're planning something outdoors. We can assist with this.

    4. Consider a Witness

If you're eloping with just the two of you, you may still need a witness depending on the state. If you're in New York, the law requires one witness, but they don’t need to be present for the ceremony itself. So, you could have a friend or family member join for the signing afterward, or the photographer could act as a witness.

    5. Enjoy the Moment

One of the most wonderful things about an elopement or intimate wedding is that you have the freedom to enjoy every moment without the pressure of a large guest list or tight schedule. Take time to explore your surroundings, and take in the beauty of the experience with your partner.
